Technical
In his specialist area of telecommunications, Chris has vast experience of drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the fields of Internet monitoring and routing technologies; Semiconductor circuits; Microprocessor Architectures; Semiconductor Manufacture and Processing; Image processing and cryptography.
Legal
Chris has been involved with patent ownership disputes; freedom to operate searches; and has drafted and reviewed agreements including Licence Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements, Cooperation Agreements, Second Source Agreements, and any others that included IP clauses, such as IP indemnity clauses. Since joining HLBBshaw, Chris has been very interested in the legal issues of software and business method patenting (especially at the borders of patentability in these fields) and has authored a number of HLBBshaw publications on these issues
Commercial
Chris previously practiced in the IP departments of GEC (UK) and Motorola (both in the UK and Singapore) and whilst at Motorola, Chris handled all intellectual property work for the Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS) in Europe and Middle East (and, later, in Singapore), which involved setting up new Patent Committees to handle the different types of technologies being designed.
Over the last few years, he has been involved with the entrepreneurial and start-up community in Cambridge, both outside and inside the University and has given many talks to various start-up and small business networking groups as well as supporting the Cambridge University Entrepreneurs by providing IP tutorials and other teaching.
Chris also speaks Polish and has given presentations in Polish to the Polish Patent Attorneys Association in Warszawa and Kraków when Poland joined the European Patent Convention.
